“You don’t take a photograph. You ask quietly to borrow it.”
– Anon

Photography has always been my passion since a young age. Taking photos when I was young was a way for me to capture moments that I was not fully understanding and process them later. Both literally and figuratively!

I remember one of the first artistic photographs I took.  I was learning about black and white photography and I was in the front yard searching for some ideas and then I saw the American flag hanging  off the wrap around porch. I grabbed my camera and wrapped myself in that flag and shot my first “creative” photo. I entered into a county fair, and it won first prize. Not the most technically perfect photo, but I caught the “Shutter Bug”

Studying art and photography through college, I was enamored with Annie Leibovitz, Man Ray, Nan Golden and the art of the photographic image.  I moved to New York City in 1997 and pursued many careers including acting, print modeling and a photo assistant.  Photography has always been an important part of my life and I have been able to meet and experience some amazing people and places through my journey. I am excited for many more!

I hope to work with you!

What people are Saying about Brian James Photo Studio:

Brian did all the photography for my father’s wedding. He did an amazing job of getting a mix of candid and posed shots. He made everyone feel so comfortable and really added to the joy of the day. The photos were gorgeous!

We had a professional shoot with Brian and he juggled each of us and then in groups. Meanwhile he had to figure out how to do this with a Mom and her toddler who wanted nothing more than to cling to her. Brian was masterful keeping her going while giving instructions to those of us in the shots. Brian was fantastic and so was his work, Thanks again Brian!
-Neil Kugelman

I was searching for a professional photographer to do my head shots. Brian James came highly recommended and he exceeded my expectations. I had a 2 hour session with him that generated almost 300 photos. He made me feel extremely comfortable and relaxed which turned out to produce some excellent head shots. He captured the look I was going for which has helped open a lot of doors for my acting career. I loved working with him because he is an excellent photographer and he is a quality human being.

We have been using Brian James Photo Studio for several years now, and even travel an hour away for photoshoots (he’s that good!). We highly recommend Brian for family photos or headshots. Not only does he capture our family so perfectly in photos every holiday – creating special memories that last a lifetime – but it’s a true pleasure working with Brian from start to finish!
